The much anticipated return to this awesome venue … the science park … seemed to take forever to come. This time there would be no mistake of going to the uninspiring Rotherham. Just a few quick drinks in Barnsley before we headed early (or what we thought was early) to the … museum. Getting there early meant there was a queue this time … the searches have gone up a notch but it was only half an hour before we were in. After learning from last time the first thing we did was head to the stalls to find a dj line-up so we didn't miss anyone. To our horror (well more Rosanne's than mine) we found we had just missed Kutski … how can they put such a big name dj on so early. Looking further down the list there was no Cally Gage either … after just missing her at Frantic too it seems we are destined not to see her this year.
Anyway, onwards and upwards … there was a bit of time before Scott Attrill was coming on who I knew I really wanted to see so it was time to take a bit of a cruise around. The first entrance room was a good, normal trance room, not the neon of last time but still good nonetheless. Heading into the main room its obvious that they've swapped it to the other way around and made it smaller, this makes sense because last time the bar was so far away at the back and it felt quite empty, this time the size was just right and made for a good atmosphere throughout the whole main room. Upstairs was the 'outside … ish' room which was very much hardstyle and hard trance orientated last time and a quick look in showed that it was going to be more of the same this time. This is where Scott Attrill was going to be playing soon, but before there we headed off to find the other room … it was supposed to be here somewhere. One of the previous rooms had been turned into a cloak room so it wasn't there … then eventually we found it just off of the entrance room.
So, now we headed back to Scott Attrill and what a good decision that was. I knew that he was good after some of the tunes he has on the 'Good Greef Xtra Hard' album (the best album in the world at the mo) and he didn't disappoint. Awesome tunes throughout his whole set, this would become the highlight of the night for me. After he had finished we spent some time in each of the rooms, and seemed to bump into the same people all the time … obviously the people with good taste :P. All rooms were good but the upstairs room seemed to have the edge in terms of quality of music, it was only a small dance floor in comparison to others but still a great atmosphere, even more so than the main room. As well as having the extra quirk that you could look over and see some of the exhibits from the museum across from the dance floor … what a crazy venue. The one big name left to see was Matt Hardwick in the entrance room so we headed down there, this room was very light so didn't seem very 'clubby' but still had a good sound system and Matt pumped out some really good tunes. This was also another great part of the night, I'm just surprised that there weren't more people on that dance floor for that one. After Matt finished all the rooms were a bit empty and many people were leaving … but at 5am is that much of a surprise?
Yet again Magna and Insonmiacz put on an awesome event, lets hope there is more of the same next year.
